Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. People who have never heard of it often think it is a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this isn't the truth. Brugel developed on Courtice located just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. The first goal she had was to be a dancer but a growth spurt resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. As soon as I outgrew the size of my male friends then I stopped. The Brugel is one of the former dancers that turned into acting. Her high school teacher school was the one who pushed her to take the next step. One of her teachers suggested she try out for a school production. She was able to audition and be cast as Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Her career spans twenty years, and she's appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens as well as smaller screens. Her most recognizable role was that of Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast for Season 1 of the show and was only seen occasionally.
